Asia Design Journal Vol.3, New Mobility

New Mobility

The English term, ‘mobility’, means ‘moving.’ This term is used mainly in the transportation field but is closely related to our daily lives and urban culture and used in other academic fields. It is generally used when explaining population migration in spaces including cities and the culture and social changes that result. Therefore, when it comes to mobility, it first refers to the definition and change of space and is followed by movements of people and, thereby social and cultural changes. “New Mobility” is based on ‘mobility’, but is different from ‘mobility’ in that it does not limit its concept simply to the physical movement of humans. The “New Mobility” which KDRI presents means changes in people’s lifestyles and cultures following changes of the acting distance and mobility of humans as a new world. This is based on new network technologies and ubiquitous technologies. Namely, it is intended to note changes in people’s lifestyles which are led by technology and changes of design. Due to ‘New Mobility’, our society, culture, and daily life are experiencing huge changes. We should understand these changes and should not be afraid of our role in leading the changes through design.
